Terms of service

These terms apply to every order of the dataset. What you may do with the data once it is delivered is set out in the data license.

The legal notice gives the seller’s address and registration details. In these terms, “we” means the seller and “you” means the organization that buys.

What is sold

We sell licenses to a dataset of the utility allowance schedules that US housing authorities publish. Prices are in US dollars.

National file: USD 1,500, one time

Every authority in the current release, with its current schedules and, where there is evidence, earlier ones back to 2019. It comes with the source files, the documentation and the data dictionary.

Yearly updates: USD 750 a year, as an add-on

Add-on to the national file: every new release for 12 months from purchase. It renews only when you ask.

The free sample is the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles: all six schedules since December 2020, in the release format, plus a workbook. The license says how it may be used.

Business use only

We sell only for business use, to companies, agencies, institutions and consultancies. The dataset is not offered to consumers, so the consumer right to withdraw from a purchase does not apply.

Ordering and payment

Order from the pricing page, or by email to hello@allowances.dev. Every sale gets an invoice.

We reply with an invoice that says how to pay. Taxes are charged as the law requires.

Delivery

Once your payment arrives, we email you a download link. You get the CSV files, the source files and the README in one zip.

The license

Every purchase comes with a license for your organization, its employees, and contractors working for it on its behalf. You may use the data inside your own work and products. That includes showing single amounts, or calculations based on them, to your own customers inside your products and reports. You may also publish analyses and aggregated or derived figures.

You may not sell, license, share or publish the dataset, or a substantial part of it, as data outside your organization. Nor may you build a competing dataset or data product from it. The license to a delivered release does not expire.

The full text is the data license agreement.

Accuracy

Every amount is read from the housing authority’s own page and checked as the method page describes. The data is provided “as is”: we do not promise that every schedule is complete, current or free of errors.

Housing authorities set and change their own schedules. Before you rely on an amount for a household’s rent, check it against the linked source page.

Corrections

To report an amount you believe is wrong, write to hello@allowances.dev with the authority and the page. We check it against the source document. If the error is confirmed and you reported it within 30 days of delivery, you get a corrected file. Buyers of yearly updates also get corrections in every new release.

Refunds

Sales are final once the files are delivered. If the files are faulty, or differ materially from their description on this site, we fix them or refund the purchase, provided you report it within 30 days of delivery. The refund policy has the details.

Liability

Our liability is capped at the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Both limits apply as far as the law allows.

Governing law
